Medior/Senior Software Engineer
Would you like to help connecting data all around the world by developing really good code for one of the leading linked data infrastructure products?
Triply is a growing company in the linked data sector. We provide a triple store database product TriplyDB, which provides a great way to administer and browse linked data. It also provides services for SPARQL endpoints (including storing and re-using queries) and Elasticsearch. Some of our clients include the Kadaster, institutions from the cultural heritage sector in the Netherlands and large commercial clients. Our co-founders did their PhDs at the Artificial Intelligence group of the VU (Free University Amsterdam), where they founded Triply in order to valorize their research findings. You may have seen Yasgui already, our open source GUI for writing SPARQL queries.
Most of our 8 team members work on development of the TriplyDB database product and its console (the interface for interacting with the database). Next to the database we provide products for clients to make (insights from) their data known to the world: Data Stories, faceted browser and the brand-new LD Maps. In addition to these products, we provide consultancy to help clients model their data, set up ETL (extract transform load) pipelines and publish their Linked data online on our database and expose it with our other products.
We believe that in the future linked data should become accessible to whomever wishes to use it as the data module for their applications. We also believe that governments should publish their data in the linked data format for proper connectedness and transparency. Our company is known for delivering a fast and high quality product and we value customer interaction. We are located at the VU campus in Amsterdam, which is a great location, close to the business center ‘Zuid-as’, as well as for engaging with academics.
As a software engineer, you will be mainly working with the development team. Your work ranges from fixing bugs to developing new features for the product or as stand-alone solutions. The new features can range from a small addition to an entire new user feature such as visualisations of data sets. We work in two week sprints, in Scrum style, where we keep track of work with issues on a digital Kanban. Every sprint, we alternate designated regression testers for testing the product before the next release. We have flexible working hours but everyone is expected to be present at the stand-up at 1 pm. Our team really supports each other: if someone needs help with an issue, we help each other out. As a more senior member of the team you are expected to support other team members as well as teach them the solutions you provide.
